Turkey Chili - Mild, Alpha Gal Friendly, Dairy Free, Gluten Free

Chili is a beloved dish with a rich history and believed to have originated in the Southwestern United States,

particularly in Texas, during the 18th century.

Native American and Spanish influences merged, with indigenous people using chili peppers, beans, and meats

in their cooking, while Spanish settlers introduced spices and other ingredients.

Over time, chili evolved into various regional styles, including the Texas chili, which typically excludes beans

and focuses on beef and chili peppers.

The dish gained widespread popularity in the U.S. during the 19th century and became a staple in cook-offs,

representing the fusion of cultures and flavors.

This is a basic ground meat and beans recipe that we have been making for a very long time!

We have some family members that prefer a mild chili, and some that like it hot.

We usually double this recipe, remove half, and then add more chili powder, paprika, and 1 tsp of cumin

to spice it up for the rest of us.

NOTE: This recipe may be safe for people with an Alpha Gal allergy,

depending on the ingredients that you use. Please check your ingredients for safety.

TURKEY CHILI

In a skillet or Dutch oven, heat over medium heat:

2 T. olive oil

Add and cook until translucent and starting to turn golden on the edges:

1 large chopped onion

Move onion to the side of the pan and add:

1 lb. ground turkey

Brown the turkey, breaking it up as it cooks.

Do not drain.

Add:

1 large can diced tomatoes

1 cup tomato sauce

2 cans of pinto beans, 15 oz each (Do not drain.)

1 Tbsp brown sugar

1 Tbsp chili powder

1 Tbsp paprika

2 tsp onion powder

1 tsp garlic powder

½ tsp pepper

2 Tbsp minced garlic

Stir well.

Heat to a low boil.

Simmer for about 20 minutes.

Note: If you put some vegan cheese on top, it will melt better if it is covered for a little bit so it kind of

melts in the steam.

Serving Suggestion: Serve with rice, cornbread, crackers, etc.

This is how we make our rice: Baked White Rice

This is our cornbread recipe: Gluten Free Cornbread Recipe

The skillet we are using is this one: Electric Skillet

We've been using our meat chopper for so long that they don't seem to be selling that exact one anymore.

This one is similar: Meat Chopper
